TranslatePress Overview

TranslatePress is the WordPress plugin used to complete manual and automated site translations. Most of the site will be translated manually.

The TranslatePress Business plugin is a yearly subscription, the account credentials are in LastPass. Login to TranslatePress to manage the account. There are 2 related plugins installed: Automatic Translate Addon For TranslatePress, and TranslatePress Multilingual.

Manage the translation button and other options with the TranslatePress Settings, General tab. It is also where you can add languages.

Automated Translation

Use the TranslatePress Automatic Translation tab to select the translation service (DeepL or Google Translate). The API keys for both are registered using the accounts@siawso.org Google Account. Credentials and keys are in LastPass. 

Automatic translation is a service for a fee, charged per character translated per day. Automation is only used as a backup for non-critical content. Text is translated only once per language.  To keep the translation free of charge, set ‘Limit machine translation / characters per day’ to less than 5,000.

Translation Exceptions

There are things we don’t want to translate, like acronyms and email addresses. To exclude them, use the TranslatePress Settings Advanced Tab, find the “Exclude strings” submenu, and add the exclusions.
