WWVM Orientation
What is WWVM?
SIA is the fellowship, like AA is a fellowship. World Wide Virtual Meetings is a group of meetings in the SIA fellowship.
SIA requires meetings to follow the SIA 12 Traditions and to have a set of safety guidelines, but it doesn’t specify the details. Guidelines can be slightly different from group to group, and there are many valid ways of handling safety and conducting meetings. In WWVM, all meetings follow the WWVM Safety Guidelines. WWVM was started in 2020 as a response to Covid, under the direction of the WSC Group Concerns committee. It developed its own policies and procedures by group conscience in the Group Concerns Safety Subcommittee and became an autonomous group in 2021, adopting the name “World Wide Virtual Meetings”. The WWVM administrator handles the technical Zoom scheduling and communicates safety decisions between the meeting chairs. Each meeting – its chair and participants – is responsible for its own meeting safety. Safety decisions are made in the meeting using the Group Conscience Safety Check and the WWVM Safety Manual.
What is a WWVM Chair?
WWVM Chair is the single person who assures meetings are held according to the Meeting Requirements, which has the details on these tasks:
1. hold the quarterly business meeting
2. check the email address for the meeting, regularly – Zoom host keys and meeting safety info are sent to this address
3. fill out the SIA Meeting Update form every quarter and when meeting info changes
4. update the meeting script when needed
5. attend most meetings to be able to manage meeting safety
The chair is encouraged to share the service tasks done in the meeting, like moderator (reading the script, calling for shares) or tech host (sharing the reading on screen). Its up to the meeting to create any other service positions as needed, including electing a GSR, as long as the chair is still doing the basic tasks.
How To Conduct A Meeting
Here are the documents to have on hand for each meeting:
1. Meeting Script – Meetings are conducted by reading from a script which is submitted to the admin and posted in the script library when the meeting is first created. Changes to scripts need to be approved by group conscience and still meet the script content requirements.
2. The 12 WWVM Safety Guidelines (and the 12 Guidelines Reference Manual)
3. Group Conscience Safety Check (GCSC)
As a chair, you should also be familiar with:
1. WWVM Safety Manual
2. WWVM Meeting Requirements
3. The WWVM Script Library
Zoom Emergency / “Zoom Bombing” Protocol
An emergency is defined as a participant doing something extreme (on camera sex acts, racial slurs, cursing the meeting, other verbally or visually unsafe behavior) that is clearly in violation of safety and clearly demonstrates they are not capable of participating in the safety procedure. The chair or the designated Zoom host should remove them.
- Find the Security icon called Host Tools in the Zoom controls (only the host will have this) .
- Select Suspend Participant Activities to stop all audio/video.
- Select the Remove Participant option, select the participant and click ‘remove’.
- Email the user name and meeting name and date to the administrator at wwvm.admin@siawso.org so that the user can be blocked on all SIA Zoom accounts.
Orientation Registry
WWVM asks that you attend orientation every 2 years. It’s complete once you’ve filled out the form here so we have a record of it. Thanks so much for your time and service!
