What is an Independent Virtual Meeting (IVM)?
An IVM is an SIA meeting that schedules meeting time in an SIA WSO–funded Zoom account. It follows SIA meeting guidelines and coordinates scheduling with administration.
SIA Meeting Requirements
- Follow and read the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions at meetings.
- Create safety guidelines and ensure meeting safety is maintained by the group.
Additional IVM Requirements
- Register and update the meeting’s online listing every 6 months and whenever contact info changes.
- Provide one public contact email (Zoom host keys are sent to this address).
- Send 7th Tradition contributions to: https://siawso.org/product/contribution/ (to help fund the Zoom account).
Cancelation
Meetings are canceled if they no longer meet the requirements or there is no use of the account for 4 weeks. To restart a meeting, re-apply.
Zoom Time Limit
The meeting has Zoom access 15 minutes before and after the scheduled time. Please end on time, running overtime blocks other meetings.
How to Start
Apply using the IVM New Meeting Application.
IVM vs WWVM
New meetings can also be created in the World Wide Virtual Meetings Group . Here are the main differences:
No Difference – IVM & WWVM
- Admin schedules meetings in Zoom and distributes host keys.
- Meetings must add and update their meeting info on the SIA website.
IVM (Independent Virtual Meetings) [apply]
- Independent of any group/intergroup.
- Safety issues and safety guidelines are handled/selected by the meeting.
WWVM (World Wide Virtual Meetings) [apply]
- Part of the WWVM group.
- Safety issues are reported to admin, who notifies other chairs; meetings use WWVM safety guidelines.
- Meetings are listed in a monthly email.
- Chairs complete an informational session (orientation) every 2 years, which is open to anyone in any group.
